‘Deserved’ – Southampton boss issues verdict on Wolves match-winner Ra…

Sporting Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl took time to pay tribute to match-winner Raul Jimenez following his side’s defeat to Wolves.

The Mexican broke the deadlock with a wonderful strike after 61 minutes at St Mary’s.

It was his first goal since returning to action after recovering from the fractured skull he suffered in a game at Arsenal last November.

The goal – and what it meant – is one of the Premier League’s good news stories of the season so far, and already beaten boss Hasenhuttl couldn’t help feeling pleased for the popular striker.

“I think the last year, what he was going by, was absolutely hard,” said Hasenhuttl, reported our colleagues at HampshireLive.

“I think that it is very good for him – and you do not see him backing out of duels and tackles, he tried to push back.

“He deserved to score a goal today. We could not stop him the one time he did well and he doesn’t need many chances to score.”

Speaking about his own strikers, the Austrian additional: “We know that we have a few new players up front and to score a goal in the Premier League you need something special, at the moment we do not have that.”
