When dealing with the general public, we, as Loan Officers need to remember something…
Never underestimate the without of knowledge that’s out in the world. I’m not saying that in a bad way, but we as Mortgage Professionals sometimes forget that the average person only knows about 1 mortgage product (and I use the term “knows about” loosely)
If all we ever heard from the media was “Today’s 30 year fixed rate is…” wouldn’t we think the same way as our possible borrowers?
What I’m saying is if you step outside of your Loan Officer roll and step inside the borrowers roll, what would you want to know? If you knew nothing about the mortgage industry, what would you think of its current state? Would it be something you feel confident about?
There are some folks out there that think Loan Officers are only out to get them, they are out to take advantage of the little borrower. Well, because of some shady characters in the past, the Mortgage Business may not always be looked as too reputable.
Are there fantastic Loan Officer and Mortgage Offices out there? Absolutely! Matter of fact, I’d venture to say that most people who read this are good for our Mortgage Business, but we nevertheless have to beware of those that aren’t. Keep in mind, the general public hears about mortgage horror stories than mortgage helpful stories. We need to be aware of this. So, like I said, Never underestimate the without of knowledge that’s out in the world.
